I'm looking into getting a laptop and I was wondering what models current GW players use (and how they work).

I know I probably want a Toshiba laptop, better price for better performance.

I have some good system specs, but I'm still curious as to what other people use.

I used to play guild wars on an abs laptop with a p4 3.0 ghz radeon 9600 and 512 mb of ram. It ran it pretty good, but I just built my own desktop and it runs it much better. Just make sure the video card ram is dedicated.

Dell Inspiron 9100 pentium4 3.4ghz 100gb hardrive 1gb of ram 256mb ati video card and a the standard issue sound card.

I have a Toshiba A75-S213, advertised by Best Buy as a college laptop, with a 3.3 ghz P4 M, Radeon 9000 Mobile, 1gb RAM, 100GB HD, etc.(it's also on a wireless network). GW runs fine, the only thing I would and am considering is upping the RAM to 1.5 GB as the system leaves somewhere around 650k for actual game usage after system resources.

Actually let me change my previous post. I will probably get the Sager or an ASUS will similar specs. It is just so hard to make a decision sometimes.

3 min is what I'm going for (anything above isn't worth it).
2 GB of RAM is amazing though.. but 512 will do...

Uhhh that is a 2.0GHz Sonoma Core(Centrino) Mobile Processor. Not one of those damn power hungry P4's. I like to be able to take my laptop somewhere other than the local power transfer station

A 2GHz Mobile Processor is equal to about a 3.2GHz desktop P4 processor!

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 with 1GB RAM, 60GB 7200 RPM hard drive, GeForce 6800 Go video, 17" widescreen (1920x1200) AND play GW at 1920x1200 with 2x Anti-aliasing at 30+ fps.

It cost me just over $1600.

I highly doubt that. Yes, the extra L2 cache is very helpful. However, laptop processors are often slightly-greatly underclocked, to preserve battery life.

Not only that, but L2 cache is different than clock speed...performance depends on a lot of stuff.

Tho it is correct that laptop CPUs arent clocked as high as current intel desktop CPUs, it is a less known fact that the current mobile line (Centrino as package, Pentium M as sole CPU) has a different and still more effective design compared to the desktop line.

This will change soon, as intel is integrating a mix of the superior mobile CPU architecture and the high clocking of the current desktop line into its next desktop CPUs.

Runs like a fatman at a marathon, so I'm getting a desktop. I advise you to do the same unless you have to get the lappy.

I have a Toshiba laptop.. can't remember the model number but will post it later when I get home. It's got a x600 card in it..'256mb' video memory but it's actually 128mb with the ability to use another 128mb of system memory.

I play on a Dell Latitude, but it is configured to run Avid broadcast editing software, so GW presents no problem.

I bought a Compaq Presario x6000 it has a PCI express 256MB ATI card. And it has a P4 3Ghz processor. It has a slow 40GB HD and it came with 256MB of ram (Ram upgrade on wesite was WAY too expensive) Anyways GW ran on this but it would take FOREVER to load a zone. I put 2GB of ram in it and it is fast as can be now. I woldnt worry too much about the processor. I would focus on Ram capability (how much you can put in it so you can upgrade later) and Dedicated Video Card. My PC at home is 2Ghz and GW doesnt run any differently.

A friend of mine runs GW on a much less powerful laptop without any problems, it ran better than mine before I upgraded the ram, it was embarassing

I paid $1,300 for the laptop. Then I cant remember what I paid for RAM I just remember I got a good deal on the RAM.
